Sea to vines bike path blocked at Hallet Cove

TO Marion Council council@marion.sa.gov.au

Please support cycling and assit with the issue of the closed path.

For details, click on the link to Adelaide Cyclists topic.

They are blaming the train station upgrade, however much of the issue is around closing the bike path that is the care and concern of the council (correct me and forward this if i am wrong).

20mm high, inoperative reflectors on edges of bike lanes

To the Office of Cycling and Walking...

Cc BikeSA and BISA

Along many bike lanes (for example Anzac Highway) there are many reflectors placed on, or near the white line.

The bike lane only applies for a couple of hours, so for most of the day, cyclists are moving in, and out of the lane, negotiating the reflectors that are as high as the height of their tyre.

If these extinct reflectors were of value to road safety it would be understandable, but 90% of them have been painted over, have car rubber over them, or worn off their relective surface.

There should be a prize for guessing the number of reflectors that do not work along the edge of the bike lane, yet are a 20mm high hazard to cyclists.

Please suggest how I can encourage the road authorities (both arterial and council roads) to remove this hazard.

Hazard - Tree overhang - Railway Tce - Cross Rd to Daws Road

To Marion Council council@marion.sa.gov.au

Hello

The trees and scrubs on the railway line side of Railway Tce, from Cross Rd to Daws Rd (Bikeway) overhang onto the road.

In many parts a cyclist is forced to ride more than 2 metres from the kerb.

Some spots are near intersections.

Passing vehicles do not expect a cyclist to change direction and move out into the road.

The risk of collision from a passing car, or at an intersection from a merging car is HIGH.

Please remove this hazard.

Hazard - Birdwood Tce - 2 locations

To West Torrens Council csu@wtcc.sa.gov.au

There are two potholes forming on Birdwood Tce.

One is East of Oval Tce.

The other is at the corner of Birdwood Close.

This road has had multiple reports (see http://roadrepair.blogspot.com/search?q=birdwood )

Also, a couple of years ago a pothole in the same location was the basis of a claim against council for costs. The council claimed it was not liable "in Tort".

In the event of an incident due to the road surface on Birwood Tce, a case of FACTUAL CAUSATION would see the City of West Torrens liable (overridding any excemption by state Government or an "in Tort" scenario).

I hope you see this information as saving the City of West Torrens money AND working towards a safer environment for cyclist, pedestrians and motorists.

Hazard - King George

To Holdfast Bay Council (mail@holdfast.sa.gov.au)

This section of road was reported to Council over 12 months ago and no action has been taken to remove the hazard.

King George Ave, West side, near Townsend House Entrance.

The rough edge between the kerb and bitumen will cause a cyclist to change direction and be at risk of impact from a passing vehicle not expecting the change of direction by the cyclist.

King George Ave is a bike path for two schools on that road.

Please remove the hazard at this location.

The section of Railway Tce, from Daws road, heading North East has numerous

The islands are not painted and dangerous at night time

There are multiple unsealed sections

The service covers (unable to identify) are very sunken and will cause a
cyclist to change direction with the risk of impact from a passing vehicle.

The attached photo shows the location of the pothole and how it is a hazard
for a cyclist.

The hole is on the Western side of road (heading downhill), however there
is also a similar hole on the Eastern side. Both are 100mtrs from South
Road between the emergency turnoff and patient bus stop drop off area.

If council is not the road authority for this road please forward this
information as appropriate to ensure the hazard is removed.

Please also advise me if this road is under the care and control of another
agency.

Anzac Highway hazards

WIth the focus on the recent fatality, maybe it is a good time to review the safety of Anzac Highway

See the list of reports here:

And reports with issues:
http://rideoutloud.blogspot.com/search/label/Location%20-%20Anzac%20Hwy

The video in the link below shows the same scenario AT THE SAME INTERSECTION as the recent fatality.

Grove Ave Marleston - Hidden Service cover

80 Grove Ave, Marleston

This cover is sunken by 30mm and is inside the bike lane.

In the shadows a cyclist can not see the sunken cover.

In addition to damage from impact. a cyclist hitting, or avoiding impact may move onto the roadway an risk impact with a passing vehicle.

Contacted United Water and established it is NOT on their maps as a service inspection point.

Attempted to contact Gas (number disconnected). Rang back United Water to collect correct number.

Contacted Origin on 1800 808 526 "crew to look at it today.

Railway Tce Sth - Video footage

This hazard that was reported a year ago has now caused damage to a cyclist's equipment. See report here...
http://www.adelaidecyclists.com/forum/topics/new-wheels-pot-holes-and-space

No doubt council will say "not liable in tort" or "we have an exemption from liability under section blah blah blah".

Here's a response you can run by a lawyer...
The hazard was reported 12 months ago, and the inaction by council to remove the hazard is FACTUAL CAUSATION of the damage occured.

There is NO EXEMPTION to this.

(NOTE: These comments are not made by, or been discussed with the cyclist who's bike was damaged. These comments are driven by the damage i have incurred over the years from bad roads, and the escape clause that road authoritys (and councils) use, pretending they did not know about a hazard and hence "Not liable in tort".)

The section of Railway Tce South from Goodwood Rd to Devo Tce South is very poor and a hazard to cyclists. There are many rough patches, and a cyclist that stikes the rough patch, or avoids the rough patch, is at risk of collision with a passing vehicle..
