Please confirm the accuracy of the above statement.

Please also advise me of what would be reasonalbe communication and response I should expect to the hazards that are reported.

Hazard - Birdwood Tce

To West Torrens Council csu@wtcc.sa.gov.au

Hello

Please repair the pothole on Birdwood Tce (photo and map attached).

The pothole is 3 metres from the kerb, but is in line with a cyclist's path if there is a parked car.

To avoid the pothole a cyclist has to move to the centre of the road, putting them at risk from impact from cars travelling in both directions.

Please remove the hazard by repairing the pothole.

Fwd: Hazard - Cycleway, Canterbury Tce Black Forest

To Unley Council pobox1@unley.sa.gov.au

Please attend to the hazard below (I previously sent this to incorrect council).
---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: Road Repair Australia <roadrepair@gmail.com>
Date: 26 August 2010 22:33
Subject: Hazard - Cycleway, Canterbury Tce Black Forest

Please take action to remove the hazard on Canterbury Tce (Cycleway) that is the 20mm edge of bitumen between the sealed road and filled section following kerb repairs.

Photo and Map attached.

The square edge, in line with the direction of travel of a cyclist, will "trip" a cyclist, throwing them onto the road (into the path of other vehicles). To avoid the hazard, a cyclist has to ride in the path of motor vehicles. There is a risk of collision as the motor vehicles attempt to pass the cyclist.

To reduce the hazard, please replace ALL BOLLARDS. This will prevent a cyclist from being "tripped" by the edge, and give warning to drivers that the road is under repair and not suitable for the cyclist to use.

Please only remove the bollards when the bitumen has been reinstated, or there is no longer a risk to cyclists.

Hazard - Service Cover - Railway Tce Bikeway

To Marion Council and United Water
uw.adelaide@uwi.com.au, council@marion.sa.gov.au

Hello

Please fix the service cover on Railway Tce Ascot Park, corner of Third ave (map and photo attached).

The service cover is greater than 40mm below the road surface and has a 90 degree rough edge of bitumen.

A cyclist will be injured from impact, or damage will occur to bicycle.

A cyclist avoiding impact will be at risk of collision from a passing vehicle not expecting the cyclist to change line of travel.

I realise that there is often negotiation required to establish who is responsible to fix service cover hazards.

Please mininise the time it takes to remove the hazard. This will miminise the chance of injury or damage to a cyclist, and the subsequent claim for losses.

Feedback on progress to remove the hazard is appreciated.

Hi there.
We attended this job after your previous email came through. Upon investigation we determined that no work had occurred on these manhole covers in the last 12 months and there was no leaks/faults with the manholes that would have caused the bitumen to deteriorate.
This means that the road repair is council responsibility. We advised Holdfast council accordingly.

Hello
Please remove the hazard caused by the service cover on the corner of Cudmore and Partridge street, Glenelg. There are two locations on opposite sides of the roundabout. The attached photo only shows one of the two hazards.
These hazards were reported to Holdfast council 2 years ago but no action has been taken to remove the hazard.
These service covers are a hazard to cyclists. Impact may cause injury or a fall. Avoiding the hazard may cause collision with passing vehicles not expecting the bicycle to change direction.
Please also note that this is a bikeway AND is located next to a secondary school.

This Stormwater cover has been hazardous many times over the last 12 months, 25 times being reported by me.

Your inability to fix this cover effectively is a waste of ratepayers money.

The above point will certainly create the "Community Need" that Council require to take action.

I look forward to your response.

Hazard - Stormwater cover in Bike lane - Cross Rd

To Unley Council
There is a sunken cover (50mm below road surface) in the bike lane on Cross road (heading West, 50mtrs East of Goodwood Rd).
I realise the road is the responsibility of the Dept of Transport, however the service cover is clearly embossed with the word "STORMWATER" (see photos and map attached).
This cover will cause a cyclist injury or fall if hit at speed. A cyclist avoiding the impact is at risk of being struck by a passing vehicle that would not expect the cyclist to change their line of travel.
If this is not your responsibility, PLEASE PASS on to the appropriate authority.
Please also advise me on who is responsible for this type of cover. This will prevent future emails to you if not appropriate.

Fwd: Walkerville Council blocks bicycle lane with concrete

Are you aware that in July roadworks in progress in Walkerville Terrace, Walkerville, included the blocking of a bicycle lane? See attached picture.

This squeeze point will create a safety hazard when cyclists are forced into the traffic lane to continue their journeys. This seems short sighted considering:
1. Road safety campaigns for vulnerable road users eg A Metre Matters and Fatal Five.
2. The increase in obesity related ill-health due to insufficient daily exercise.
3. Road congestion caused by motor vehicles
4. Sustainable transport of the bicycle can slow climate change. The average Australian household produces 14 tonnes of greenhouse emmissions per annum for transport. In Australian capital cities, up to 50% of trips are less than 5km, an easy cycling distance.

I recommend that you read further info on the website of the Cycling Promotion Fund, including how cycling is good for business.

Will Walkerville Council rectify this recent oversight of blocking a bicycle lane and increasing cycling hazards?

Hazard and accident - Stormwater drain in Aust Post Car park Brighton

The storm drain shown will allow any bicycle with road or hybrid tyres to fall into the grate.

I was entering the carpark with the intention to turn to the right of the drain and park next to the post boxes at the rear of the Post Office. To save the bike (and myself) from serious impact from the drain, I released the brakes, hopped the wheel, but then was not able to turn or stop in time for the kerb at the edge of the car park.

The drain pinched the tyre and tube, but hitting the kerb with a flat tyre is what did the damage to the rim.

The good news is I did not get injured. I was able to unclip, and like a rodeo rider, gracefully exit the mount over the headstem. The cost of repair will hurt though!
I will be reporting this to Aust Post, and if I am lucky get some compensation.

Any punters want to make a bet what will happen?
