Hello
(mail@holdfast.sa.gov.au and mitcham@mitchamcouncil.sa.gov.au)

[21 Feb 2009 - This email was also sent to Mitcham, however also sent to West Torrens citymgr@wtcc.sa.gov.au as it is also in their council area]

The link above is to photos of the Anzac Highway bicycle lane between Beckman and Brighton Roads.

These hazards were reported to the Department of Transport on 18 Nov 2008 (1800 018 313 road and traffic light report hotline), however they indicated that the kerb issues (and the edge of the bitumen to the kerb) are councils responsibilities. (Note: I sent an email to the wrong council at the time and no response was given to allert me to the mistake)

Recently a cyclist fell on this stretch of road, requiring an ambulance to attend. I do not have any information to the cause or circumstances regarding the accident.

Please have the hazards along Anzac Highway (and connecting side-roads) removed to prevent a cyclist injury or accident.

The hazards vary, from cracks in the concrete, to square edge to the bitumen (or ruts) that with 'catch' and bike tyre and throw the cyclist into the roadway. Many hazards are near, or at intersections with side roads, adding a further hazard to a cyclist who is both signalling and observing traffic while negotiating the turn.

In addition to the risk of impact with the road surface irregularities, there is a risk of collision from passing vehicles not expecting a cyclist to change position on the road to avoid impact.

Please contact me to advise the progress councils will be making to remove these hazards.
