Hello

Please find attached another location of blue cateye that are hazardous for
cyclists.

There are two of them in line with the path a cyclist takes.

This is just west of Brighton road, and a very busy section to be dealing
with traffic from shops, passing traffic AND road surface.

Please pass this information on to your contact for other cateye hazards.

Thanks and regards

Hazard with kerb repairs, Brighton area (Commercial Rd)

Hello

I was cycling on Commercial road last night past the Windsor theatre. THere was a car parked on the West side of the road, and an oncoming car.

This only left a couple of metres of the road for me, and along the road is an unsealed area where kerb repairs have been performed.

The edge of the unsealed section is a square edge, extending for more than 10 metres in the direction of travel, and in places over 20mm deep.

This is enough to catch a bicycle wheel, causing the rider to fall onto the road.

Please attend to this road, and the others in the area to avoid an accident happening.

Hazard - King George Ave

Hello

On the 14 August you advised that " The road is being monitored and repaired by depot staff, until it will be resealed".

This is not the case and currently there is over 50 metres of 20mm plus deep edge running parallel to line of travel, plus holes exceeding 50mm in depth.

This is the tenth communication in 8 weeks to Holdfast council in this regard (first report 18 July 2008).

At no time has the hazard been removed.

Re: King George Avenue - Poor monitoring and repair

Hello Hilton

King George Avenue is NOT being moniored nor repaired at a level to REMOVE the hazards, highlighted by my reports of hazards dated 17, 18, 29, 30 July and 4 August.

There are multiple places where the square edge running parallel to the line of travel exceeds 20mm in depth and are over 2 metres long. This square edge is in the middle of the bike lane and will cause the cyclist to fall into the path of traffic. I have reported this in my latest report (attached) and it is still present at 12 August.

Also, the additional fill is now spread wider across the bike lane.

The attempt to fill some larger holes with cold bitumen has also failed to remove the hazard.

I repeat the above statement... King George Avenue is NOT being moniored nor repaired at a level to REMOVE the hazards.

Enquiry regarding response to hazard report - Partridge St, 10090ea

Hello
(to mail@holdfast.sa.gov.au)

I did not get a response regarding this hazard that I reported on 18 July 2008 (email to mail@holdfast.sa.gov.au) and no action had been taken to remove the hazard (as at 5 August 2008).

I rang Holdfast council to follow up on this hazard (photo attached) and was put through to Council Works where I left a message on an answering service.

Peter promptly returned my call, and took down the details of the hazard. He informs me the council works had not received any notice of this hazard.

Please contact me to clarify if you received the initial hazard report or not (email to mail@holdfast.sa.gov.au dated 18 July 2008).

If there is a better process to report hazards please let me know.

I am best contacted by email roadrepair@gmail.com

Alternatively I am happy to meet in person with someone from the council to discuss this further. I had previously met with Ben Wright, establishing the process to report hazards.

Thanks and regards

Hello again

Further to the previous email this hazard is now more serious.

Many students will be using this bike lane from Monday and the hazard will "trip" a bike up, causing the rider to fall into the path of vehicles.

All repairs to the road need to have the bollards remain in place until the bitumen is reinstated.

Please contact me regarding the action the council it taking to remove this hazard and prevent re-occurance with other kerbing repair jobs.

Thanks and regards

Road surface Intervention Criteria - cyclists

Road surface faults that exceed 20mm in depth or height are a hazard to cyclists. In addition to the risk associated with impact, a cyclist that swerves to avoid impact is at high risk of collision from a vehicle that did not expect the manoeuvre by the cyclist.

Any fault in the road surface from the kerb, to approx 2.5 metres out (being the path a cyclist takes passing a parked vehicle) is a hazard to cyclist.

Below are photos taken outside 76 Winston Ave (Melrose Park). This is a “Bikeway”. There are two service covers, both having a dip exceeding 20mm.

The photos show that these service covers are in the area that the cyclist uses. The cyclist must swerve around them, yet the cyclist must also negotiate traffic that is behind them and car doors that open in front of them.

In these instances if the cyclist swerves to avoid impact with the service cover they will have an accident with either the passing car or the opening door.
